Scan or photograph — either works, but scans are more forgiving
IBPS accepts a signature on plain white paper, signed in black or dark blue ink. You can capture it two ways: scan it flatbed at a low DPI, or photograph the paper with a phone. A scan is generally the safer choice — it produces a flat, evenly lit image with a genuinely white background, which compresses cleanly and predictably to the 10–20 KB range. A phone photo of paper on a desk tends to pick up shadows, a slight yellow cast, and an uneven surface, all of which cost extra JPEG bytes for no real benefit — and can make the final file lean toward the top or over the 20 KB ceiling.
If you’re photographing rather than scanning, use a well-lit spot without a shadow falling across the signature, and crop tightly around it before uploading so this tool isn’t left cropping away half your visible page.
Why 140 × 60 is wide and short
The output ratio here is a bit over 2:1 — much wider than it is tall, which matches how a signature actually sits on a line: a horizontal stroke with a small amount of vertical variation. If your source photo or scan is a different shape (most are, since you rarely crop precisely around just the signature), this tool automatically crops from the centre to hit 140 × 60 exactly, rather than squashing your signature into a wide rectangle it wasn’t drawn in.
If the automatic centre-crop cuts into a part of your signature that spreads unusually far up, down, or sideways, it’s worth taking a fresh photo or scan cropped a bit tighter around the mark itself before running it through this tool, since the crop always trims from the centre outward rather than trying to detect where the ink is.
